Retailers have undergone a dramatic and rapid transformation from mono, to multi to omnichannel. This transformation has been thrust upon retailers as technology and consumer adoption rates of that technology have exploded. The rapid pace of change and lack of understanding of how customers would seamlessly shop channels caused retailers to create channel silos and fail to integrate operating models across channels In the current state, retailers have created multiple, complex and inefficient operating environments. In a slow growth retail environment, costs have grown but sales have not. In order to fully realize omnichannel benefits and be prepared for the next wave of technology, retailers must to develop a seamlessly integrated omnichannel operating model which will leverage people, stores, supply chain and inventory to meet customers’ needs.
